Pedagogy of the Oppressed (Portuguese: Pedagogia do Oprimido), is a book written by Brazilian educator Paulo Freire, first written in Portuguese in It was first published in English in , in a translation by Myra Ramos. The book is considered one of the foundational texts of critical pedagogy, and proposes a pedagogy with a new relationship between teacher, student, and : Paulo Freire. The twenty-ninth sin, that is classified as a Greater Sin is ‘Helping the oppressors’. Fazl Ibn Shazān has narrated from Imam Riďa (a.s.) that he said concerning the Greater Sins: “And helping the oppressors and bending (leaning) towards them.” In the narration of Amash from Imam Sadiq (a.s.) the following is mentioned, “Not helping the oppressed people is a Greater Sin.”.

This book will present some aspects of what the writer has termed the pedagogy of the oppressed, a pedagogy which must be forged with, not for, the oppressed (whether individuals or peoples) in the incessant struggle to regain their humanity. This pedagogy makes oppression and its causes objects of reflection by the oppressed, and from that.   Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
